Mirzya Movie Review – All Fluff and No Substance!

As true desis, we’re all suckers for romance and tragedy. We resonate deeply with defeated heroes and women on a journey fighting for love. Mirzya by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is a tragic folk tale on similar lines, retold with a hint of the contemporary. Developed on the classic Punjabi folklore Mirza-Sahibaan love story where the drama, emotions and passion runs deep. With a vision to capture the thrill of young love, Mirzya is a tragic folk tale retold with a contemporary twist – the trailer of the movie certainly got us excited. We began dreaming of exquisite details, chivalrous fight scenes with dialogues ready to floor us.

But much to our disappointment, this film lacked all the juice that we expected. When already backed with such an incredible story line, there was very little that could have gone wrong, but to our surprise that is all the film depended on.

Harshvardhan Kapoor and his boyish charm could not do justice to the gravity of the character of the original passionate lover, Mirza while Saiyami Kher’s role lacked depth and appeal. While the picturesque locations and stunning angles in and around Udaipur were made for a blockbuster, the deeper values of the characters were lost in the frills of it.

We just hope the exquisite story frame created was filled in with more substance, the characters drawn had more depth and the actors, well, we just wish they’d been better trained!
