Badhaai Ho- An engaging and enjoyable watch!
Remember just before the end credits started rolling in Hum Aapke Hain Koun how Bindu got pregnant? That one scene has been adapted into a full-length feature film in the form of Badhaai Ho. Given the fact that the premise is brimming with an inventive idea and razor-sharp performances, the film largely works despite the fact that you already know how exactly it would end. Here’s in detail why this film is worth your time:-
1. Story and Screenplay
As we have already seen in the trailer, the Kaushik family in Delhi is all set to welcome a Naya Mehmaan in their house but it’s the mother who’s pregnant. The couple is elated, the grandmother shocked and the sons embarrassed. And since the plot is centered on this unpredictable news, the screenplay doesn’t deviate from characters and their respective reactions.
2. Editing and Music
With a running time of over 125 minutes, Badhaai Ho knows exactly when to end and how to end. It wants to entertain the viewers but knows it cannot overstay its welcome. We have some soothing numbers but they are there because it’s a Hindi film and you may not remember or croon them once you’re out of the cinemas.
3. Performances
Although Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra are the leading pair, the Gen-Next actors! It’s the senior actors that are the life of the film. Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta and Surekha Sikri infuse their characters with humor, emotions and palpability. They raise the maximum laughs and also provide the tensest moments. Khurrana has a likable persona but Nakul seems to be an extension of the nonchalance of Vicky from Vicky Donor, also based in Delhi. Sanya Malhotra meanwhile is kept away from the dramatic bits. She has one tense confrontation scene with Nakul, otherwise she’s here for the romantic interlude.
Overall, Badhaai Ho is bursting with sharp one-liners and a charmingly funny idea that should be enough for you to buy the tickets.
We give this film 3 Stars!
