Meri Pyaari Bindu Review: A RomCom like none other

Movie: Meri Pyaari Bindu

Cast: Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana

Director: Akshay Roy

Producer: Yash Raj Films

Aditya Chopra’s latest offering Meri Pyaari Bindu, featuring Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana has finally hit the theatres, and now it’s time to share our thoughts.

Meri Pyaari Bindu tells the story from the viewpoint of Ayushmann Khurrana, who plays Abhimanyu, a fluff writer who hails from Kolkata.

His writing is known to have the elements such as thrill, horror and women objectification. He chose this particular genre as he wants to break away from the regular stuff that the writers out there are doing.

He is seen writing a book which he has been working on for three years now, for which he draws inspiration from his estranged childhood sweetheart Bindu (Parineeti Chopra) an aspiring singer back then.

At this point, he realises that there has always been something more than friendship between the two. So he sets out on a journey to reunite with the newly realised love of his life.

Our Review: The development of Abhimanyu and Bindu‘s friendship begins with their simple love for samosa and chutney. Abhimanyu‘s flashback, set in the good old days of Kolkata is something every individual will relate to. This screenplay along with Abhimanyu’s writer-like narration in the background makes the film an absolute treat.

This was supposed to be Parineeti’s redemption film after a series of box office blunders, and she has thrived in each and every frame. Parineeti is so comfortable in the skin of her character that it seems like we are actually watching a shade of herself. She can really act and emote, that’s something that we are convinced about. She also owns it as a debutant singer, which makes us think that she should consider singing for all her upcoming projects and maybe even release an album or two of her own just like her cousin Priyanka Chopra.

We unfortunately still live in a kind of era where we still see love at first sight in films, and Meri Pyaari Bindu comes as a breath of fresh air.

The emotions and conversations are not at all overdone, the dialogues are quirky and the comic timing and nostalgia created by the mixed tapes are spot-on. We have no complaints except for the over production of songs and the thanda chemistry between the two in the first half.

Our Verdict: It is a must watch for every movie goer, as Meri Pyaari Bindu is not simply a RomCom, it’s so much more than that. Parineeti and Ayushmann, take a bow!
