Bareilly Ki Barfi review: A fun-filled quirky love triangle

Movie: Bareilly Ki Barfi

Cast: Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana

Director: Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari

Producer: Junglee Pictures

Rating: 3/5 Stars

Where it all starts

Bareilly Ki Barfi begins with the story of Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon) who is a fun-loving, break dancing, alcohol drinking and English movie-binging girl from Bareilly, who feels she is becoming a burden upon her parents and one day decides to leave the town for good, until a book brings her back. The book, which is titled Bareilly Ki Barfi, makes her realise that it is not a crime for Bitti to be the way she is.

Entry of Ayushmann and Rajkummar

Bitti, the girl who has been rejected several times because she does not fit in the general idea of how a bride to be should be, finds her soul mate in the author of the book in question and a search companion in Ayushmann Khurrana, who eventually falls head over heels for her. This is when Rajkummar Rao makes an entry, whose character, just like the man himself, is a terrific actor. But, you realize that a little later in the story.

The love triangle

Things begin to get complicated and this causes a confusion of epic proportions and thus forms a one of a kind love triangle. The ending of the film is how every Bollywood love story ends, but the build up to the conclusion is very interesting.

Star Performance

As far as individual performances are concerned, there is Kriti Sanon, who has stayed true to her character but has flaws that you could easily overlook. Her wit, charm and reasoning in every situation is endearing. Ayushmann Khurrana’s Chirag Dubey is having his own share of problems which he drowns in alcohol every night. He is the perfect bully in the scenes where he needs to be and holds his solo scenes well. His last scene left us spellbound. And then, Rao, be it playing a scared small town man child or a typical brash talking dude, trust him to ace every aspect of his character.

Dialogues

The dialogues are written smartly and the characters take the occasional jibes at prevalent social evils at perfect situations. At some point, the authenticity in the dialogues delivery is so much that you may not understand at first, but there is no difficulty in understanding what is going on.

Verdict

A must watch if you are a fan of smartly progressing RomComs.
