Tumhari Sulu review: Here’s to all the super-moms!

Movie: Tumhari Sulu

Cast: Vidya Balan, Neha Dhupia, Malishka, Manav Kaul

Director: Suresh Triveni

Production House: T-Series, Atul Kasbekar

Rating: 3/5 Stars

After Begum Jaan, Vidya Balan has once again proven that she can practically nail any part in Tumhari Sulu. Let’s give you a quick context of what the film is about, in case you haven’t seen the trailer already.

Meet Sulochna (Balan), a charming middle-class woman who takes pleasures in simple things like lemon-spoon racing, winning things off radio competitions and winning local “best mummy” contests and having hilariously adorable banters with her loving husband (played by a terrific Manav Kaul). Before you know it, she has the aspiration of turning into an RJ, which she does. But then, her passion takes over and a dramatic incident happens with her. What happens after that? Go watch the movie!

At the end of it all, it’s about the “mein kar sakti hai” attitude that she holds throughout the film, only until she realizes that might just be nothing but an illusion. The setup of a local middle-class Mumbai residence with a loving family is something that you can instantly relate to.

Although Vidya Balan shines throughout the presentation, special mention also goes to Neha Dhupia and RJ Malishka, who also make it seem like that they are not acting at all, and we mean that in a VERY good way.

Coming to her housemates, her husband Manav Kaul and their son lend enough of their skills to the story and try to make the best of what little they have been given. But, that’s where the problem is. They have VERY LITTLE to work with.

As far as how the whole film performs as a package. The first half keeps you engaged while the second seems to be a bit hurried up. The dramatic incident could have been done in a much better way and Kaul, although has some VERY charming moments which will resonate with many men who have given up on their dreams to support a family, his character could have definitely been penned better!

A mom who can balance work and family life is no less than a superhero, which Balan portrays in a very terrific way by dawning a cape. Certain moments make you smile.

So, do go and spend some time with Sulu and family. We assure you that Sulu will have you at “Hellllo”!
