Diljit Dosanjh’s Soorma, the Shaad Ali directorial that tells the unbelievable but true story of the former Indian hockey captain, the legendary Sandeep Singh, is just a few hours away from hitting the silver screens as of this writing. We had the opportunity to catch a screening of the biographical sports drama ahead of its big screen debut, and we walked out of the theatre halls feeling a multitude of emotions and a zest to deal with whatever we need to head-on. So, without any further ado, let’s share with you all five top reasons why Soorma is a must watch by all means!
flawless writing and screenplay!
The story of Sandeep Singh is inspiring enough for one to book the tickets for the same on an immediate basis, but what makes Soorma a worthwhile watch is its writing and screenplay. Every single element of the story has its importance and all of them collectively do make you root for its lead characters. We bet that whenever you’ll see Sandeep in his time of difficulties, you will find yourself saying “Come on, you can do it!”
Power-packed performances!
Most of the heavy lifting is done by the three central characters of this biopic, namely Sandeep (Diljit Dosanjh), Bikramjeet (Angad Bedi) and Harpreet (Taapsee Pannu). Diljit has the central protagonist is earnest and pitch-perfect and lovable as Sandeep. He doesn’t skip a single beat of emotion hits the ball out of the park (sometimes literally) with his performance when given a chance. Angad Bedi has the fortitude and vulnerability that was expected of him as Bikramjeet and performs his part as the elder brother to Dosanjh’s Sandeep very honestly. Taapsee Pannu disappears in the character of Harpreet and she wipes the Shabana image off our minds completely. Special mention goes to the brilliant Vijay Raaz and Satish Kaushik.
Brilliant musical score!
Apart from Soorma being an inspiring and a riveting flick, it’s also a musical delight. With the help of emotion-stirring background score and foot-tapping musical numbers, the magical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy create tension and entertain their audience exactly when it’s needed. The musical set pieces come to life thanks to the amazing choreography.
A visual delight!
Shaad Ali has once again proven that there’s no one like him who can use indoor and outdoor locations in the way that he does. Ali and his team of cinematographers have made sure that while every frame that they capture is an impactful one, it should also please the eyes.
Apt portrayal of the sport!
When we got a chance to have a conversation with Mr. Ali ahead of Soorma’s release, he had mentioned that he had three different responsibilities. One towards the real Sandeep Singh himself. Second, towards the people that are a part of his life, and third, towards the sport of hockey, which we believe that he has done full justice to!
All in all, Soorma is indeed a fun but yet inspiring watch. Good luck trying to keep yourself in the seat during its climax.
