Phillauri Review: A ghost film that lacks excitement!
Here’s what we think about Diljit Dosanjh-Anushka Sharma starrer Phillauri!
Movie: Phillauri
Stars: Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh, Suraj Sharma
Director: Anshai Lal
Production House; Fox Star Studios/Clean Slate Films!
Phillauri is finally in theaters! The first few shows of the Anushka-Diljit Dosanjh starrer have come to an end, so I guess it’s time for our take on the film!
The story starts with a westernized character of Sooraj Sharma who is initially ridiculing the idea of getting married to a banyan tree in order to have a normal and long lasting marriage. Reluctantly, Sooraj gives in and marries a banyan tree. And once, while a relieved Sooraj is sleeping peacefully, comes in Shashi, the (friendly) ghost played by Anushka Sharma. Turns out, he ended up tying the knot with Shashi and the whole movie unfolds soon after that justifying how Shashi got hooked onto the Banyan Tree.
What’s good: Sooraj Sharma does play his character very well. And we have no complaints with Diljit Dosanjh either. The movie doesn’t have a quintessential ghost and intends to have a funny take on the ghost. The movie does make you smile at certain places, but that’s as far as it goes. You can easily sense that the characters and the makers are attempting real hard to make the audience laugh.
What’s bad: The film, given the fact that it doesn’t have a scary ghost roaming around in the lonely villages who has a heart breaking story to tell and vengeance in her blood is quite a deal breaker for the film.
Our Verdict: This is what you get when you try to take the flavour of Bhootnath and mix the essence of Casper the friendly ghost (And even a bit of looney toons). Clearly not a disaster of a film but nothing to be constantly raving over either.
This is the kind of movie that you watch when you have hours to spare. The movie is surely not something that you would want to pay the expensive evening show rates for. More of a kiddie entertainer, we say!
Our Verdict: 2.5/5 Stars!
