Movie Review: URI The Surgical Strike, Vicky Kaushal Shines Bright YET AGAIN!

One of the most anticipated films of 2019 and also the first major release in the New Year lives up to its expectations. The film gives an interesting inside peek into the surgical strike, which was a secret operation and hopefully, a mature approach to the cross-border tension between India and Pakistan.

So is it worth watching?

1. Plot

The film is based on real events which highlight how India conducted its first surgical strike to avenge the death of Indian soldiers that were killed by terrorists. The film’s structure is easy to follow and is divided into chapters, which give us a clear timeline of events. The real events of the surgical strikes are placed in the latter half of the film and the first half consists of the build-up to the attacks.

2. Stars

Vicky Kaushal is impressive in the role of Vihan Singh Shergill. Yami Gautam and Kirti Kulhari hardly have any on-screen time but still, they manage to make an impact in the story. Paresh Rawal makes no mistakes and is convincing in the role of the Security Advisor to the Prime Minister. Debutant Mohit Raina stands out and we wish to see more of him in the coming days. Overall, it’s a film owned by Vicky Kaushal.

3. Visual appeal and direction

The cinematography, VFX and editing in this film are top-notch. Director Aditya Dhar makes no mistakes and appears to be in full control of the script. He makes one of the best war films in Bollywood with amazing action sequences that will give Hollywood war films a run for their money. You wouldn’t be wrong to call it the Desi Call of Duty.

Overall, the film is a wonderful example of how war films should be made in Bollywood and we are happy that after a debacle called Paltan, we finally have a good war film.
