Kargil Vijay Diwas: A look at the top 3 War films of all time!

It was the 26th of July, 1999, when the Indian Army proudly fluttered our nation’s flag and claimed a glorious and brave victory in the Kargil War. That day went on to be known as the Kargil Vijay Diwas.

As we celebrate 19 years of a chapter in Indian History that shall never be forgotten and ought not to be either, let’s have a look at the top 3 war films we have made:-

1. Border (1997)

Border

JP Dutta’s penchant for mammoth stars and massive scale only escalated with this ambitiously mounted war drama that was set against the backdrop of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. And given an army of actors who only made their characters believable, Border packed a solid punch and charged up the patriots inside us.

2. LOC Kargil (2003)

LOC Kargil

Who else but JP Dutta to make a film on the 1999 Kargil War? After giving us the insight of 1971, Dutta made his most ambitious film and possibly the biggest Hindi film of the last two decades! Slightly more realistic than Border and also portraying the character of the martyr Major Vikram Batra, this war drama may have failed to recreate the magic of Border, but still remains a worthy attempt to show the viewers how the Indian Army put up one of the bravest battles in history.

3. Lakshya (2004)

Lakshya

It wasn’t as much of a war film as a film about a slacker’s transformation. A major metamorphosis to reclaim his lost respect in the eyes of the woman he loves. He becomes a soldier and as his journey gradually deepens, he realizes his country needs him. It’s at this point the 1999 Kargil War kicks in, and Lt. Karan Shergill (Hrithik Roshan), along with his entire army, vows to reclaim the Point 5179, which has been occupied by the neighboring nation. This too was a commercial failure but still remains one of the most rousing war films we have made.
