Box-Office Overview: Padmaavat, Baaghi 2 and Pad Man fly high!

It is probably not a common thing for films to keep the ticket counters ringing almost consistently, and maybe even much less so in the case of Bollywood if historical records are to go by.

Speaking of history, it seems like it is being re-written for the time being since it has been observed that back-to-back releases such as the likes of Padmaavat, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pad Man and many others have indeed make the distributors happy by posting astounding numbers in terms of ticket sale collections.

So, let’s just give you all an overview of those champions that have or still are raking in tons of moolaah at the domestic ticket counters in the first quarter of this year.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed epic drama Padmaavat, which is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime, ended its theatrical run with an unprecedented total of over 300 CRORES! (302.04, to be precise) against all odds, considering the restrictions that the drama had faced before and subsequently after its release.

On the other hand, the film with which the movie-pairing of Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani made its debut, Baaghi 2, is clearly being loved by the audience (Although it might still be debatable as to whether critics are pleased by it or not). And we have the numbers to prove it! The actioner has so far minted a wondrous total of over 135 crores and it’s still going strong. You have to hand it over to the makers of this film for giving the audience what they want.

Although Pad Man probably did not do as well as probably it was expected to, has clearly given its makers a pretty decent return on its investment, given that it took a relatively less amount to produce and even distribute this film. The Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor-starrer was taken off the theatre halls after it brought in about 81.80 crores via the windows.

Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety: One might have expected this Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha and Sunny Singh-starrer to be a hit, but clearly many (or just maybe us, at least) did not see 100-crore mark coming for this one, which could have sent exhibitors in a state of extreme happiness. Considering its economics, the film could have shocked many after it posted a figure of about 108.46 crores, right?

Could we have ever expected anything less when Ajay Devgn pulled off a highly sophisticated Raid for all to see? We don’t think so! The Raj Kumar Gupta directorial, which saw Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz pair up again after Baadshaho in a completely non-glamourous setup, ended its dream run after it made about 100.14 crores so far.
