2018 has proven to be one of the most surprising years for Hindi Cinema in recent times, unlike 2017, which was nothing less than shocking. We had multiple gems that set the box-office on fire and also reinstated the audiences’ trust in content. So here are the Best Bollywood Films of 2018 so far:-
This Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus, after the 2015 Bajirao Mastani, may have had its share of criticism and disdain, particularly because of a rather-glorified climax that showcased the now abolished practice of Jauhar or Self-immolation, but one cannot deny the filmmaker’s bravery and endless ambitions to essay an untold and unknown story of Rani Padmaavati in a grand, spectacular manner, and squeeze out winning performances from his leads, especially Ranveer Singh.
Beyond the 122 crore lifetime collections it managed, it was a brave and fearless story of a young, naive girl, who becomes an informer for India after being married to a Pakistani army officer. Had it not been for the effecting Vicky Kaushal and the infallible Alia Bhatt, Megna Gulzar’s drama would have miserably failed to pack a punch.
One may argue this was a grossly manipulative and questionable attempt by Rajkumar Hirani to create a sympathetic atmosphere for Sanjay Dutt around us, no one can deny the actors’ commitment to their respective characters. Right at its heart was Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt, whose portrayal went beyond the gimmicky and comical impersonation of the actor, and giving equal amount of strength was Vicky Kaushal as his best friend Kamli, who too, blended his performance with palpable emotions and light-hearted humor.
It may not possess a strong screenplay or watertight writing, but boats off some spectacular special effects and admirable VFX. Shankar and his entire team created a giant of a Sci-Fi adventure that turned quite a few heads and dropped multiple jaws across the globe. And this Rajinikanth-Akshay Kumar starrer is on its way to create unheard box-office records!!!
