7 interesting web series to watch out for in 2018!

In a country like India, where daily soap operas and Bollywood films have had the strongest hold on its country people as an audience for the longest of time, it is being witnessed that although there are very few takers for the concept of a web series as of now, the trend and the market is growing and evolving with each passing day. So much so that our beloved stars like Saif Ali Khan, R. Madhavan and the likes have been known to be shooting to venture into the digital space.

So, while there may or may not be good films to look forward to in this year, here are a few web series that one must definitely look out for.

The Ministry

The Ministry will be Irrfan Khan’s debut into the digital space as an actor. The show will be a political satire set in contemporary India’s corridors of power. The series, created by Gursimran Khamba of the popular comedy group, All India Bakchod (AIB), will premiere sometime this year on Amazon Prime Video. Gursimran Khamba is the creator of this show and his group and Irrfan go back a long way.

Untouchable

Vikram Bhatt is all set to launch his very own OTT platform and his web series titled ‘Untouchables’ will be his first original series to be featured on this new platform. Krishna Bhatt, who has assisted her prolific father in films like “1920”, “Mr X”, “Haunted” and “Dangerous Ishhq”, will debut as a director from his web series. ‘Untouchables’ is a thrilling courtroom-drama which revolves around a medical student who’s an escort who lands up facing a murder rap when a wealthy client of hers is killed.

Sacred Games

Sacred Games, a Netflix original series is based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller novel which goes by the same name. The series will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films. The eight one-hour-long episodes are said to be jointly directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, who are co-founders of Phantom Films. The series will star Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles.

Inside Edge season 2

The first season of Amazon Prime’s first ever Indian original series, Inside Edge, featuring Vivek Oberoi, Richa Chadha, Angad Bedi and Tanuj Virwani was indeed the most–watched title on Prime Video in India. The makers have confirmed that the second season is on the way. Farhan Akhtar co-owns Excel Entertainment – along with Ritesh Sidwani – which produces the series along with Amazon. This series is based on a fictional T20 cricket team, Mumbai Mavericks that plays in the PowerPlay League

TVF Tripling 2

TVF Tripling was an Indian web series created by The Viral Fever, the first ever known Indian production company to take a step into the digital space. It traced the story of three siblings, Chandan, Chanchal & Chitvan. Together, they embark on a hilarious journey to find themselves and their relations. Sumeet Vyas had confirmed of season 2 is around the corner.

Breathe

The upcoming medical thriller which stars R. Madhavan, Hrishikesh Joshi, Nina Kulkarni and Sapna Pabbiin undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows that are out there. Breathe is an Indian drama that explores the lives of a few ordinary men who are faced with extraordinary circumstances. Written and directed by Mayank Sharma, this happens to be Amazon’s first trilingual venture. Breathe will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

The Test Case
The Test Case is a 2017 Hindi web series, which was directed by Vinay Waikul and Nagesh Kukunoor. It stars Nimrat Kaur, Atul Kulkarni, Rahul Dev, Manit Joura and Akshay Oberoi in the highlighting roles along with Juhi Chawla in a guest appearance. For reasons best known to the makers, only the first episode of the series had been made available for streaming on the ALT Balaji App and its associated websites since the release date. Recently, the producers has announced that the shooting for the remaining 9 episodes has been completed and will be made available on the 26th of this month.
