Movie Review: Here Are 3 Reasons Why You Should Watch Kajol’s Helicopter Eela
After directing Rani Mukerji in Mardaani, Pradeep Sarkar returns with Helicopter Eela, an experimental film based on a Gujarati play ‘Beta Kaagdo’. The film tackles the subject of helicopter parenting which is quite prevalent in Indian society.
Here’s our take on the film.
1. Story
Helicopter Eela, follows the life of a single mother whose world revolves around her son, so much that her son feels suffocated. She is also an aspiring singer, but ends up giving her career to take care of her son. What happens when she decides to enroll herself in her son’s college and how she establishes her own identity forms the rest of the plot.
2. Kajol’s Comeback
After Dilwale, Kajol returns with Helicopter Eela and she manages to entertain the viewers with her charm and strong on-screen presence. There are certain moments when you feel for her character and Kajol dominates every frame. Her performance is very convincing and manages to hold together an otherwise melodramatic story. She is energetic and deserves an applause for her strong performance.
3. Music
Amit Trivedi is on a roll with back to back hit albums like Manmarziyaan, Andhadhun and now Helicopter Eela. Amit Trivedi hits the right notes and makes the narrative more entertaining. His sense of music combined with Pradeep Sarkar’s attention to detail makes way for fun, quirky album that reminds you of the 90’s indie pop culture.
Overall Helicopter Eela relies heavily on Kajol and she doesn’t let you down. Watch this emotional drama with your mother and you wouldn’t be disappointed.
We give it 3/5 stars.
