Sui Dhaaga – Made In India Review: Sab Badhiya Hai

The rise and rise of Hindi Cinema’s protagonists from ebb isn’t a new idea. We have seen that in recent films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Pad Man. But like it’s said that the journey is more crucial than the destination, Sui Dhaaga – Made In India quite succeeds in keeping one hooked.

Here’s why it works:-

1. Story and Screenplay

The story is about an ordinary man and his ordinary wife, who are burdened by the responsibilities of their family. But Sharat Katariya isn’t interested in mirroring the harsh realities of rural India in a dour manner. He blends his scenes with humor and arouses laughs even in tense moments. Most memorable being the protagonist, Varun Dhawan’s fiery conversations with his father, Raghubir Yadav. Mauji, played by Varun, a small-time tailor, aspires to make it big and has Mamta (Anushka Sharma) by his side. The screenplay, although snail-paced in the first half, forms the narrative of the plot post-intermission, and the way the story unfolds, you begin to feel and root for the couple. In short, it works!

2. Editing and Music

It’s a two-hour film, but given the pace of the story, some people may take some loo breaks. Music by Anu Malik isn’t half as memorable as his Dum Laga Ke Haisha, which was by the same team. The film, if remembered for long, won’t be remembered for its music.

3. Performances

It’s the acting that people will talk about! Raghubir Yadav as Varun’s father is superb and has quite a few memorable scenes in the film. However, the film belongs to the lead pair. Both Varun and Anushka make their sufferings and struggles fully relatable and shine throughout the film. Despite the fact that they don’t have any romantic scenes in the film, given the subject, they still share a warm chemistry.

Sui Dhaaga – Made In India is not a perfect film, and the climax feels far away from reality and appears to be quite unrealistic, but given the earnestness of the subject and the likability of the characters, Sab Badhiya Hai!

We give it 3/5 stars and highly recommend to watch this film
