2018: The year when content driven films scored BIG at the box-office!

2018 was basically the year of content driven films. They not only struck a chord with the audiences but also gold at the box-office, with most of them scoring more than 100 crores. Here are The Surprise Blockbusters Of 2018:-

1. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety

The combination of Kartik Aaryan and Luv Ranjan reaped magic again! But this time, hardly anyone imagined it would earn more than 100-crores at the ticket windows. And now Kartik is the Gen-Y star and Luv Ranjan collaborates with biggies like Ajay Devgn and Ranbir Kapoor for his next.

2. Stree

Who would’ve thought we’ll get to see a film on women empowerment in the form of a horror-comedy? But if a film dealing with such a tense subject had to be given a deliciously dark and funny twist, it had to be from Raj and DK, the film’s writers. Critics argued about the irony of the moniker and the inconsequential female characters, but no one raised a finger at the madly inventive plot, ensemble cast and sharp dialogues. This is now one of the most profitable ventures of the year and Rajkummar Rao’s first 100-crore blockbuster!

3. AndhaDhun

Sriram Ragahvan is a mad filmmaker and his murder mysteries are madder! Unlike other filmmakers, he doesn’t conceal the killer’s identity. The same tropes find their spots in his AndhaDhun, a taut, gripping tale of deceit, unpredictability and gratification. And to top them all, Tabu and Ayushmann Khurrana and Raghavan’s perpetually fascination for Hindi Cinema. Earning over 70 crores, it surprised everyone with its plot and collections.

4. Tumbbad

It wasn’t your true-blue horror film with hideous looking ghosts making unexpected arrivals. Tumbbad went beyond and gave us a fascinating and beautifully crafted story of greed and its repercussions on mankind. Every frame spoke volumes of its makers patience and perseverance. This was one of this year’s most pleasant surprises!

5. Badhaai Ho

When seasoned actors are allowed to take the center stage, they create a magical impact on the consciousness of the people. What Paresh Rawal did in Oh My God! or Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah did in A Wednesday, Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta did in Badhaai Ho! And the film is still running in the cinema halls and is a bonafide, massive blockbuster!!!
