BIRTHDAY SPECIAL: Decoding the reasons behind Ekta Kapoor’s success
Ekta Kapoor, who turns 43 today, is one of the most successful film and television producers we have in the business. As she celebrates her birthday today, we decode the reasons behind her success story:-
1. Success on Television
Back in 2000, it wasn’t only Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai and Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati that sent the nation into a state of daze, but Ekta Kapoor’s Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii also kept the viewers glued to their beds and couches. Discarded as regressive and melodramatic by some of the people, both the TV serials became absolute favorites of the women, especially the ones who revel in gossip and grousing.
2. Stint with Bollywood
She turned to film production and made her Bollywood debut with Govinda’s Kyo Kii…Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta in 2001. Though a commercial failure, her fondness to produce films didn’t extinguish. And today, having seen tons of success with films like Kya Kool Hai Hum 1&2, Ragini MMS 2, Main Tera Hero, Ek Villain and the recently released Veere Di Wedding, she’s one force to reckon with.
3. The Ultimate Risk-Taker
For all those who think Ekta is best at creating and producing saas-bahu melodramas, she dared to showcase the first television kiss ever in her show, Bade Achche Lagte Hain. The same holds true for films like The Dirty Picture and Love Sex Aur Dhokha, her two home productions, which amped-up the meters of boldness and erotica.
4. ALT Balaji
After conquering films and television, Ekta has now started a video on demand platform called ALT Balaji, which aims to establish dominance in the digital space. It has already made over 30 serials in five different languages.
