6 Reasons why Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger was a BLOCKBUSTER!
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Ek Tha Tiger was two films rolled into one! The first half saw Khan as a daredevil and fearless spy who’s packed off to Dublin to spy on a college professor the RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) suspect is leaking information to the ISI (Inter-Services intelligence) in Pakistan. A plot twist that could be guessed even before the person concerned with the plot twist came into the picture, the pre-intermission portions of the film were a mix of gruesome action and gratuitous romance between Tiger and Katrina Kaif, who played Zoya.
The second half was all about Tiger and Zoya running away from RAW and ISI to lead a life sans the two agencies. And despite the uneven narrative and scattered screenplay, Ek Tha Tiger was a BLOCKBUSTER, Here’s why:-
1. Salman Khan
When you have Salman Khan as your leading man standing tall in every frame, who would choose to look for logic? I mean how dare you look for anything else but Salman Khan in a Salman Khan film?
2. Salman-Katrina
Bhai was not alone but was accompanied by Katrina Kaif. Despite coming after the dud Yuvvraaj, fans were immensely excited to see the Jodi back on the silver screen, this time actually meant to be with and for each other, unlike Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and Partner.
3. Kabir Khan
Kabir Khan, who has been a war-documentary filmmaker, has a penchant for travelling and enjoys embedding national or patriotic issues into the narrative of his films. After Kabul Express and New York, he portrayed the story of two lovers, one from India, the other from Pakistan, and how their love transcends all boundaries and obstacles. The man surely knows how to tell a tale, even if the result is underwhelming like in the case of Phantom and Tubelight.
4. The Release Date
It was the Independence Day as well as EID and the whole country is at home! What better opportunity to go out and have a blast or an entertaining outing with your families? And given how Cinema has continued to attract millions of audiences every year, especially during National Holidays, why should a film as giant and awaited as Ek Tha Tiger should keep them away?
5. The Locations
This espionage thriller had some eye-watering camerawork and luscious locations. If not for anything else, watch it to have a trip around the world by just sitting at home, that too for free!
6. The Theme
Tell your audience that your film is different and they might turn a blind eye, tell them it’s a patriotic one and they’ll jump to the cinemas. The same goes for this one. Period!
The film even had a sequel, Tiger Zinda Hai, which was more true to its material and narrative and didn’t falter like this one. And it also turned out to be Salman and Katrina’s biggest hit of all time.
