28 Years of Superstar Salman Khan!
Bollywood’s bad boy Salman Khan has just completed 28 long years in the film industry. The Dabangg Khan has been entertaining audiences for nearly three decades now, both onscreen as well as of screen. Even after all these years, the audiences just cannot have enough of this megastar.
Here is a list of the Top Salman Khan movies:
Maine Pyaar Kiya:
The film that started it all, even though Salman’s debut film was J.K Bihari’s ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’, ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ was the film that made him the star he is. The movie was an instant success and made the lead pair Salman and Bhagyashree overnight teen sensations.
Aandaz Apna Apna:
Perhaps the funniest Bollywood film ever made, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ saw Salman team up with Aamir and the two set the screen on fire with their bromance and funny antics. Salman excelled in the role of the simple but dumb-witted Prem. It would surprise many to know that this film was a failure at the box office when it released in 1994, but today it is regarded as Bollywood’s cult and iconic film.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun:
This movie saw Sallu team up with his ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ director Sooraj Bajartiya and the two, more than re-created the magic. The film became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. It contributed to a change in the film industry, with a turn towards less violent stories. The film did wonders for the careers of both, Salman as well as Madhuri Dixit.
Karan Arjun:
This film saw Salman team up with Shahrukh Khan for the first time. This Rakesh Roshan re-incarnation drama was the second highest grosser in 1995 after ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’. The music of the film was also a chartbuster, many of the movie’s dialogues have also become iconic and are fondly remembered.
Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya:
In this film, Salman worked with both his real life brothers Sohail and Arbaaz, while Sohail was the director of the film, Arbaaz was the antagonist. Salman was paired opposite Kajol in the film. The song ‘O O Jaane Jaana’ became an anthem and is one of the biggest Bollywood chartbusters of all time.
Tere Naam:
This remake of a south film is probably Salman’s best performance ever. For a role that was tailor-made for him, Sallu bhai played the role of a bad boy with a heart of gold to the T. This was one of the few films of Sallu that met with critical acclaim as well as commercial success.
Partner:
This David Dhawan directed, remake of Hollywood film ‘Hitch’ was one of the biggest hits of 2007. It was the first time that Salman was working with Govinda and the second movie he was doing with his then girlfriend, Katrina Kaif. The Salman-Govinda Jodi were widely appreciated for their chemistry and comic timing.
Wanted:
Prior to ‘Wanted’s’ release in 2009, Salman had a string of flops and was going through a low phase professionally, but all that was forgotten on Eid 2009. The film opened to packed houses and the public just could not stop clapping for Salman’s every dialogue. The darling of the masses was truly back and how!
Dabangg:
Exactly a year after ‘Wanted,’ Salman gave the industry and the public one more eidi on Eid 2010, this time in the form of ‘Dabangg.’ From his belt shaking dance to the sunglasses tucked into his shirt, everything about the film became a trend. The song ‘Munni Badnaam hui’ became an anthem and Salman-mania truly reached its peak.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan:
This film shut the mouth of several critics who always said that Salman was ‘all masala no content’. The story about a Hindu man who selflessly crosses all hurdles to reunite a six-year-old Pakistani girl with her family won the heart of the nation. Bajrangi Bhaijaan was not only praised by critics but was also only the second Bollywood film to cross 300 crores, later that year the film also bagged the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Sultan:
The film release was timed perfectly as it inspired many wrestlers who represented India at the Olympics. Salman walked onto the silver screen for the first time in a pair of shorts and he slogged really hard to look like a desi wrestler. At 50 he looked the best he ever has and Sultan is the second highest grosser Salman has ever starred in.
Wow, what a list of super hits!
