25 Years of Khalnayak: What made this Sanjay Dutt starrer a BLOCKBUSTER?
Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff’s Khalnayak completes 25 years today. Released on the 6th of August, 1993, this Subhash Ghai directorial was always destined to be a BLOCKBUSTER! Here’s why:-
1. Sanjay Dutt
We all know Sanjay Dutt was going through a lot of troubles back in 1993 when Khalnayak was all set to release. He was arrested under the Arms Act in the 1993 Bombay Blasts Case. This entire episode benefited the film immensely and the rest is history.
2. The Sanjay Dutt-Madhuri Dixit Pair
Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were in a relationship during the early 1990’s and even planning to get married after the release of the film. Having done films like Saajan and Thanedaar, people were curiously waiting for Khalnayak and when it released, everyone just jumped to the cinemas to see the most successful on-screen pair of that time.
3. The Music
Laxmikant-Pyarelal, the name was enough to guarantee BLOCKBUSTER music. Right from the title song Nayak Nahin Khalnayak Hoon Main to Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai, half of the credit of this film’s success should be given to the iconic music maestros.
4. The Showman Subhash Ghai
Before losing his touch with films like Yaadein and Kisna, showman Subhash Ghai was the HIT MACHINE! Starting his career as a director in 1976, he never faced failure till 2001, which is a record in itself. And with films like Karma, Ram-Lakhan and Saudagar behind him, Khalnayak had to be a BLOCKBUSTER!
