15 Years of Koi… Mil Gaya: Why this Hrithik Roshan starrer is still memorable?

Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta’s Koi… Mil Gaya completes 15 years today. The film was special to the makers as well as the audience for various reasons. Here they are:-

1. The Genre

Koi... Mil Gaya

The first Sci-Fi (Science Fiction) film of Hindi cinema was Wahan Ke Log in 1967, followed by Mr India in 1987 and Chhota Chetan in 1998. Koi… Mil Gaya kind of revived the genre that still continues to excite the audience.

2. The Cast

Koi... Mil Gaya

Hrithik Roshan, despite his back-to-back flops, was the heart-throb of the nation and so was Preity Zinta. Even though their pairing in Mission Kashmir failed to create any magic, there was a lot of buzz around their Jodi during the release of the film.

3. The Director

Rakesh Roshan

Rakesh Roshan had a BLOCKBUSTER in the form of Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai behind him, he was teaming up with his son again. Who wouldn’t be excited?

4. The Music

Koi... Mil Gaya

Rajesh Roshan too was coming after the success of the aforementioned film. It’s Magic and Idhar Chala were already doing well on the charts, but there were quite a few other songs that did really well. Jadoo Jadoo being one of them.

5. The VFX

Koi... Mil Gaya

Back in 2003, to create a film with such ambitious and imaginative VFX was a big risk. Rakesh Roshan wanted to take that risk! Adapting the basic theme of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and giving it his own Indian touch, Roshan told a simple yet brave story that found immense popularity among children and family audience.

6. Jadoo

Koi... Mil Gaya

Last but not the least, the alien for whom the film is remembered for! Jadoo was an endearing creature from the outside world. The Om Om tune and his conversations with Hrithik transpired millions of memes on social media.

The film was followed by Krrish and Krrish 3, and even though we have to thank Rakesh Roshan to give us India’s first super-hero, both the films somewhat lacked the innocence and the charm of this film.
