Here’s why Dangal was not nominated for IIFA 2017
Aamir Khan‘s Dangal became a huge hit in 2016. The movie which showed the inspiring story of the Phogat sisters raised to be wrestling champions by their authoritative father was loved by everyone. The movie didn’t just break all the records at the Indian box but even made a huge mark at the Chinese box office. Even after making it so big, what surprised everyone was that Dangal was missing from the nominations at the prestigious IIFA awards which were held in New York last week. Censor board chief Pahlaj Nahlani even questioned the credibility of the awards show and said: “Only those stars get an award who make it to the awards night.”
Now the organisers of IIFA have issued a statement to clarify the same and said .”Basically, in IIFA forms are sent to various production houses, They fill up those forms and send it back to us.These forms are put out in the industry for voting and from there it becomes a nomination. ”
Wizcraft Internation Director Andre Timmins continued saying, “So Dangal had not sent their entry in. We would have loved Dangal to be a part of it. It’s the movie that has broken all box office records and we loved Aamir Khan and the two girls in it. But unfortunately, they didn’t send their entry in.”
It’s a known fact that Aamir Khan has boycotted all awards shows including the National Award in India for 16 years – Looks like now Dangal has boycotted IIFA too!
The IIFA 2017 Best Film was won by Neerja, The best direction was awarded to Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury for Pink, while Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were lauded as Best Actors for Udta Punjab.
