CBFC’s Pahlaj Nihalani speaks up about Aamir’s Dangal controversy

Central Board of Film Certification’s Chief, Pahlaj Nihalani with his nonsensical reasoning has been the butt of every joke ever since he was assigned as the chief of CBFC. Therefore when he spoke about Aamir Khan’s decision of not releasing Dangal in Pakistan without the National Anthem we were all ears!

Nihalani commented on the issue saying, “It’s very simple. Our national anthem which gives every Indian goose bumps is our national anthem. It’s constitutionally unacceptable across the border for our anthem to be played in their country. There is nothing new or shocking in this.”

He said that India’s CBFC follows the same rules and backed Pakistan’s CBFC’s decision saying “We do not allow shots of the Pakistani flag. And we’d not let the Pakistani national anthem play in any cinema shown in our country.”

For once when we thought he was genuinely making sense, Pahlaj Nihalani decided to burst our bubble by making another absurd statement.

He tried to play the victim card by comparing India’s CBFC to Britain’s saying “In Britain, the censor board doesn’t allow abusive words or bloodied violence. Here in India, we are bullied by the so called liberal filmmakers into allowing profanities and violence. If we don’t we are called conservative government’s stooges. In foreign countries, the censor board is truly an independent apex body. In India, we are helpless pawns in the hands of the pseudo-liberals.”

Well, Mr Nihalani, if banning films like Lipstick under my Burkha and 76 other such films just from 2015-16 makes you feel ‘helpless’ we wonder what in the world could leave you contented.
