The CBFC goes snip-snip on Begum Jaan this time
Begum Jaan is having a tough time dealing with The CBFC
Vidya Balan starrer Begum Jaan transpires as a fierce and strong flavoured movie, and this has obviously led to the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) paying extra heed to the film.
According to recent reports, CBFC has asked director Srijit Mukherji to substitute the dialogue ‘Allah kehke Bismillah. Naam Nabi ka Holi’ with ‘Tan se khele ang-rang daala Brij ki har bala’
Along with this, the Film Certification board has informed the makers to replace a Dargah reference with a Saraai. The board supposes these aspects to hurt religious sentiments. A CBFC source informed a leading daily saying, “We can’t take any risks with religious sentiments. Cross-religious references are all very well and a sign of a liberal India. But we can never be sure of how the not-so-liberal India would react to this.”
The CBFC has been trying to ‘guard’ the not-so-liberal India for donkey’s years now. We think it’s time art moves ahead in its own accord!
