Was Ajay Devgn the first choice to play Ranveer Singh’s role of Khilji in Padmavati?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming historical drama Padmavati is facing a lot of issues. Padmavati is based on the ruthless Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, and his attempt to capture the beautiful Rani Padmini of Chittor played by Deepika Padukone. Ranveer’s act in the film is appreciated a lot but recently there was news that Ajay Devgn was initially approached for the role.

Now the makers have denied all these rumours and dismissed the stories as “irrelevant PR“.

The source said “Ajay was never offered Padmavati. The Khilji role was Ranveer Singh’s from the very start. Ajay had been offered Bajirao Mastani; he was the first choice for the role. And Bhansali sir was keen to team up with him again after Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam. But things didn’t work out then.”

Reports have it that Ajay had demanded a whopping amount for Bajirao Mastani and hence Ranveer Singh was roped in for the role.

Well, we are glad that Ranveer Singh is a part of Padmavati.

Padmavati also stars Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh. The release of the film, which was earlier slated for December 1, was deferred as the filmmakers were yet to procure a censor certificate.
