BIRTHDAY SPECIAL: Here are Priyanka Chopra’s FIVE finest performances yet!
Priyanka Chopra’s journey from Jamshedpur to the big world of Bollywood is no less than intriguing and inspiring. The day she was crowned the Miss World in 2000, the world knew this Desi Girl was born to conquer the world and make all her wishes into fantastical realities. As we expected and she desired, Priyanka Chopra made her big Bollywood debut with the Anil Sharma directorial, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy in 2003.
There has been no looking back ever since her foray into the world of movies. With one spectacular performance after another, she has time and again proven her thirst for acting and hunger for flesh-and-blood characters, both in India and the West, her current land of domination. So as she celebrates her birthday today, we have a look at her 5 BEST performances:-
1. AITRAAZ (2004)
Entering the space of darkness for the first time in her career, Priyanka Chopra swayed away almost everyone who saw her as a vamp. Counted as one her best, she became the second only actor to win the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor in a Negative Role after Kajol for Gupt (1997).
2. FASHION (2008)
Once on the wish-list of every top heroine, Madhur Bhandarkar squeezed out all of Priyanka’s stardom and infused her character with vulnerability. Her transformation from gullible to arrogant to repentant won her the Best Actor (Female) Filmfare Award in 2009.
3. BARFI! (2012)
Her most heart-warming role yet, Priyanka displayed the traits of autism in her character with near perfection, and almost stole the show in Barfi!. Her portrayal of Jhilmil is truly one of the finest performances by an actor in many, many years.
4. 7 Khoon Maaf (2011)
Easily her most underrated performance yet, Priyanka Chopra donned not one or two but seven different avatars in Vishal Bhardwaj’s blood-curdling drama, 7 Khoon Maaf. With each look drastically different from the other, physically and emotionally, both Priyanka and this film deserved a lot more than what they received, critically and commercially.
5. BAJIRAO MASTANI (2015)
The film may have centred on Peshwa Bajirao and his love for Mastani, but it was Kashibai who was the heart of this magnum opus. Priyanka Chopra made unrequited love for her husband, subsequent heartbreak and longing, fully palpable. To be fair, she completely stole the show right from below the nose-ring of Deepika Padukone.
HONORABLE MENTION- MARY KOM (2014)
Hope Priyanka continues to mesmerize us with more such superlative performances in the future as well!
