Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto co-star completes 10 years in cinema
As reported earlier, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s much talked about film, Manto, directed by Nandita Das, will be screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year, under the Un certain Regard category. As ecstatic is the actor and the director, there’s someone equally attached to the film that is bubbling with joy and euphoria and that’s the leading lady of the film, Rasika Dugal. And Manto calls for a double celebration for the actor as she completes a decade in the Hindi Film industry. Starting her journey with the 2007 film, Anwar, she went on to star in critically acclaimed films like Kshay and Qissa.
The actress has been dabbling her acting skills not just in films but in various entertainment platforms including theatre, television and web. The actor’s film, Manto, has been one of the two only Hindi films this year as the official selection for Cannes. Speaking about the occasion, Rasika said, “It has been ten years since I started acting professionally. It has been a crazy journey, with so many ups and downs and myraid experiences. And I couldn’t have thought of a better way to celebrate ten years of being in this profession than with having my film as an official entry at the Cannes Film festivals and that too in a prestigious section – Un Certain Regard’. For actors like me, appreciation for our work is most valuable. It is what we thrive on. This selection is such an honour and an incentive to push myself further to learn more and raise the standards of performance”.
We are assured Manto is going to make a lot of noise at the Cannes this year, but here’s hoping it makes an equally powerful impact once it gets a theatrical release in India.
