Irrfan Khan’s film banned in Bangladesh for harming society

Irrfan Khan’s Bangladeshi film ‘No Bed of Roses’ (Doob) has been banned in Bangladesh. The Information Ministry raised some objection on the certification of the film by the Film Development Corporation.

The Mostofa Sarwar Farooki directed drama was banned because of its script’s uncanny resemblance to the life of legendary writer/filmmaker Humayun Ahmed without having a disclaimer about it in the beginning of the film.

Irrfan reacted to the news and said, “I am surprised by the decision. It is a story centered on human emotions, the relationship between a man and woman. How can a film cause any harm to society?”

In the film, Irrfan plays the role of a filmmaker who leaves his wife and marries an actress who happens to be his daughter’s schoolmate.

The director of the film said, “I have never officially claimed it to be a biopic, as that would need more detailing. I don’t promise to show any truth. Doob is fictional and open to interpretation.”

However, Farooki believes it is a soft ban and will be uplifted soon.
