Salman Khan’s next is a musical!
It’s true, dear readers! Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo maker Sooraj Barjatya has the writers cap on in order to pen down his next with Salman Khan, and no no, It’s not Prem Ratan Dhan Payo 2. Here’s what the director has to say, spilling the beans on the same:
“There’s something going on right now but I need to put it on paper. It is definitely not going to be Prem Ratan Dhan Payo 2, it is something different. It will be a full-on entertainer, a big musical,” – says Barjatya in an interview at the sidelines of an event where he launched his upcoming TV production.
Barjatya also expressed that Television, as a medium of choice for storytelling will always be his first preference over Films. He believes the characters get enough time to evolve, and the combined run-time of an average Indian TV Show given each and ever character enough time to justify themselves. He also states that, in comparison, it is a tricky job to pull off the same with a 2-hour movie, even if it turns into a multi-film franchise.
He would prefer to work on the script at his own sweet time, probably when he is not busy producing television shows. Sooraj also shares his immense fondness for the Star Plus’ daily soap Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, as it is a show which excludes any supernatural element, and creates situations out of relatable circumstances.
Musicals have worked well in the west (remember High School Musical?), and it’s about time the genre is explored in India just to see how the audience receives it.
Given that we are a movie industry which is known for our hit movie numbers, we believe a grand musical with Salman Khan in it will most certainly create waves at the box office!
Now, Sultan in the Musical ring, huh? quite an exciting thing to look forward to!
