5 BIG controversies that SHOOK Bollywood recently!

As was pointed out by Karan Johar at a press conference post the backlash he received for hosting the infamous AIB Knockout, the entertainment industry is more likely be at the center of controversies due to perhaps being in the limelight almost all the time. And, given the kind of events that have happened in the past three months or so, we clearly see the truth in that. Some of these episodes may have been really hard to miss, while a few may not have surfaced all that much.

So, here’s a rundown for you of the past five instances where the film industry allegedly rubbed off the general folk the wrong way.

This is one of those controversies that would have been surely hard to miss, especially since more than perhaps the general media, memes made this case popular. But, for the uninitiated, the Race 3 actor recently spent two nights in jail after being allegedly found guilty in the 20-year-old blackbuck poaching case. However, if a few sources are to be believed, justice has been served as the Bhaijan of Bollywood is now a free man.

Salman Khan

  • When Salman and Katrina allegedly made casteist remarks!

Now, this is perhaps one episode which might have gone unnoticed. It so happened that during the promotions of Tiger Zinda Hai, Salman Khan apparently made a casteist remark against a particular section of the Indian population. While due to this, although Salman became accused #1, his co-star Katrina Kaif, who was accompanying him then, became accused #2 of laughing it off.

Tiger Zinda Hai

There is probably no way that a controversy which was as huge as this one could have missed your eye. This more-than-a-year-long controversy included episodes of beating Padmaavat director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the sets, constant tiffs with a handful of religious groups who were getting sceptical about the content of the film, burning effigies, giving direct death threats and offering handsome bounties for those who would either behead or cut off noses of either one of cast members or the director. This is what you’d call the mother of controversies.

Padmaavat

As bizarre as this may sound, this case has a connection to Karan Johar’s banner, Dharma Productions as well. Wondering how? It so happened that a certain Ripu Daman Jaiswal alleged that he sent a script, which resembled that of Akki’s social drama, to Dharma about a year and a half ago, but did not receive a response from them. At one point, he even took to Facebook to share a few snippets from his script while simultaneously claiming indirectly that about 11 scenes in the film were lifted from what he wrote. But, R Balki, who directed Akshay in his home production, refuted all such claims.

Pad Man

  • When Jeetendra was called a sexual offender!

Quite recently, one has obviously noticed that a huge number of celebrities from around the globe have spoken about the prevalence of sexual misconduct to varying degrees in the entertainment industry. And, when this trend started picking up in India, perhaps the first celebrity that came under the radar was, pretty surprisingly, veteran actor Jeetendra Kapoor, who got accused by an unnamed Srinagar-based woman of physically abusing her. In response, the actor’s advocate released a statement, a part of which read, “Foremost my client specifically and categorically denies any such incident. Besides even otherwise such baseless, ridiculous and fabricated claims cannot be entertained by any Court of law or the law enforcement agencies after a span of almost 50 years. The Statute has provided a justice delivery system through the Courts, and the Limitation Act 1963 was specifically enacted to ensure that all genuine complaints are made within a maximum time limit of three years so that a proper investigation is carried out and timely justice is delivered,”
