4 Reasons why we still continue to love Bajirao Mastani!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani completes 3 years today. It clashed with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s Dilwale. While this Rohit Shetty directorial got an opening of over 21 crores, that SLB magnum opus opened to a mere 12 crores. However, the word of mouth spread like fire and it ended up defeating the film by a huge margin.

Dilwale ended its lifetime run at 140 crores whereas Bajirao Mastani made 180 crores. Here are the 4 reasons why this film still continues to be loved and savored:-

1. Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh the star went completely invisible in this humongous historical drama. He, although, battled the criticism of reducing the character into a hapless lover who interminably pines for Mastani, the actor also infused the part with vigor and vehemence! This still remains one of his best works yet.

2. Deepika Padukone

She played Mastani, the woman Bajirao sacrificed his life for, at least that is what we were told by the movie. And Padukone looked like a true ethereal beauty. This was far from her best performance, but her grace and piquancy compensated for the lack of a stunning piece of acting!

3. Priyanka Chopra

She was the heart of the period drama, even if her name didn’t feature in the film’s moniker. She essayed the role of Kashibai, the wife of Bajirao Peshwa. And Chopra’s portrayal was both moving and amusing. She blended heartbreak with humor, that can be a rare combination, but that’s exactly why she nearly stole the film from the leads.

4. Sanjay Leela Bhansali

This fascinating story was his dream. He envisioned the idea in 2005 and fulfilled it in 2015. The grandeur was inspiring and the visuals were breath-taking. The frames, the music, the costumes, every department was meticulously handled and scintilla-tingly staged. And this was all from the heart of Bhansali!
