1998: When Salman, Aamir & Shah Rukh gave us three of the best songs ever!

1998 was one of the greatest years of the decade for Hindi film music. AR Rahman, after a spectacular debut in Hindi films with the 1995 Rangeela, became the music composer to look forward to and Himesh Reshammiya just broke into movies, thanks to Salman Khan. And Jatin-Lalit, the always dependable music duo, continued to compose enchanting and hummable tunes.

But as much the social media is obsessed with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan today, there was as much euphoria about the three leading superstars back then as well. And as these BLOCKBUSTER songs complete 20 glorious years, we revisit their cult and legacy:-

1. Oh Oh Jane Jaana- Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya

Salman Khan was solely responsible for growing-up boys and grown-up men throwing their shirts off and dancing unashamedly to this Jatin-Lalit song. This was the first instance when Bhai showcased his abs and ripped muscles (Read Real), but not for the purpose of beating the baddies to pulp but crooning about his dream girl. Oh Oh Jane Jaana is an ideal amalgamation of bizarre choreography, catchy lyrics and infectious melody.

2. Ae Kya Bolti Tu- Ghulam

A yet another Jatin-Lalit number, this chartbuster song did for Khandala what Yash Chopra did for Switzerland and Aditya Chopra did for Punjab. Asking a girl out was never the same, and if you planned a date in the aforementioned hill station, you had Aamir Khan, both as an actor and a singer to help you out!

3. Chhaiya Chhaiya – Dil Se

A vivid memory tells us that the audience in one of the cinemas demanded that the song be played again as they wanted to experience the catharsis of Rahman’s iconic creation once more! Everything about Chhaiya Chhaiya  is a spectacle. Right from Farah Khan’s imaginative choreography to Sukhwinder Singh and Ila Arun’s haunting voice to Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora’s verve, it became a song for the ages.
