When Shah Rukh Khan & Ranveer Singh inspired Rajkummar Rao
Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao seem to be a match made in heaven! The duo has collaborated for some really explosive and exhilarating films that give a straight punch to the gut. Be it the portrayal of a fascinating and disturbing courtroom drama in Shahid, or the depiction of the ruthless reality of the rural-urban migration in Citylights. Now, as Rajkummar Rao and Hansal Mehta gear up for the release of their next film, Omerta, the actor, who enters into the dark space again after the 2015, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, speaks about Shah Rukh Khan and Ranveer Singh and how they are behind his inspiration to portray the role of a terrorist.
In one of his recent interviews, Rajkummar Rao stated, “Playing an antagonist is quite fascinating. We’ve seen it in the past, be it Shah Rukh Khan sir in Darr or Ranveer Singh as Khilji in Padmaavat or Heath Ledger in Dark Knight. I thought it would be fun to explore the antagonist side of the film, especially in this film which is about the antagonist, who is a terrorist. There is no hero at all. He is such an evil mind and I’ve not explored this territory before Omerta. So I thought it would be interesting to try something new, something so dark, which is not me at all. I did not connect with him at any level and hence, I thought it would be exciting to explore this!”
After Omerta, which releases on the 4th of May, Rajkummar Rao will be seen opposite Shraddha Kapoor in Stree, a horror-comedy, Fanne Khan, which stars Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 5 Weddings, with Nargis Fakhri, and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, with Sonam Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Anil Kapoor.
