It was in March last year that the Malayalam film industry was left in a state of shock as one of their prominent actresses was molested in her car while she was on the way to Kochi from her house in Thrissur. According to reports, the crime in question was plotted by superstar Dileep. The actress is still fighting the case with the support of all actors from the industry.
A split inside the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A) was reported earlier, regarding the differences in opinion on its decision to provide legal aid to the assaulted actress.
Actor Mohanlal, the newly elected president of A.M.M.A wrote a letter to the state government requesting for a female lawyer and it was said to be hijacked by a powerful group who supports the accused actor Dileep. Furious over the hijack of his letter before reaching the ministry, the actor now had threatened to quit his position.
Meanwhile, the victim stayed away from making any comments.
In response to the reports claiming that Mohanlal has threatened t quit the esteemed organization, the association quite recently issued an official statement which read, “This is to inform all the members of AMMA to not worry about the reports in Mathrubhumi (A leading Kerela-based daily who published the story in question initially)”
The statement said that various other film organizations in Malayalam cinema had stopped giving cinema related advertisements to Mathrubhumi for the last one and a half years.
The statement further read that, “Because of this, Mathrubhumi is taking out their frustration on us, From insulting newly released films to portraying the people who work in the Malayalam film industry in a bad light, the newspaper has been attacking the Malayalam film industry,”
Well, the fact that Mohanlal is going to stay the president of the AMMA does come as a relief, doesn’t it?
