THREE WAY: It’s Newton vs Haseena Parkar vs Bhoomi at the box office

Bhoomi, Haseena Parkar and Newton were the three films that had released last week. While one was Sanjay Dutt’s comeback revenge drama, the other was Shraddha Kapoor’s (half-decent) portrayal of the late godmother of Nagpada, and the other had Rajkummar Rao’s honest portrayal of an election personnel who is left to collect votes in a Maoist conflict-ridden jungle. So, let’s see how the three films are holding up against each other.

Here are the day wise collections of Shraddha Kapoor’s Haseena Parkar. (released in 1200 screens)

(Day 1, Friday, 22^nd September):- 1.87 crores

(Day 2, Saturday, 23^rd September):- 1.91 crores

(Day 3, Sunday, 24^th September):- 2.20 crores

Total:- 5.98 crores

On the other hand, here is what Bhoomi, which released in 1900 screens, collected in the same three days:-

(Day 1, Friday, 22^nd September):- 2.25 crores

(Day 2, Saturday, 23^rd September):- 2.47 crores

(Day 3, Sunday, 24^th September):- 2.72 crores

Total:- 7.44 crores

And then, last but not the least (in fact the best). With just a count of 430 screens, here’s what Newton managed to get in:-

 (Day 1, Friday, 22^nd September):- 96 lacs

(Day 2, Saturday, 23^rd September):- 2.52 crores

(Day 3, Sunday, 24^th September):- 3.42 crores

Total:- 6.90 crores

Well, considering that Newton released in far lesser screens but managed to get in almost the same amount of business as it’s considerably bigger counterparts, we can see that India is probably FINALLY moving towards content-driven cinema and not really going after big names. Kudos!
