Sushant Singh Rajput & Sara Ali Khan’s Kedarnath banned in Uttarakhand!
Sushant Singh Rajput & Sara Ali Khan’s Kedarnath has opened to 15% occupancy across the country, which is way below the expectations. As far as the reviews are concerned, they haven’t been favorable either, with criticism over the writing and the storytelling pouring its way. Critics have also spoken how the backdrop of the 2013 Uttarakhand Floods makes its way to the screen only in its penultimate 20 minutes, with a majority of the focus being the now-done-to-death narrative of a love story between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy.
And now, to make matters worse, this Abhishek Kapoor directorial has been banned in Uttarakhand for hurting religious sentiments. The representatives of the Kedarnath priests said, “We will launch an agitation if the movie is not banned as we have been told that it hurts the Hindu religious sentiments by promoting ‘love jihad'(an alleged campaign under which Muslim men target the non-Muslim women for conversion to Islam).”
BJP leader Ajendra Ajay also spoke about the film and said, “The movie has vulgar dance numbers picturized at the places of worship which hurt their religious sentiments.” Owning to all these factors, this love story has now been banned in the Haridwar, Dehradun and Udham Singh Nagar district!
Will this ban damper its box-office prospects? Let’s wait and watch!
