PeeCee: When you have Aamir or Salman on the poster, the film makes 300 crores

Priyanka Chopra is one actress, who has voiced the issue of wage differences based on gender again and again, which is prevalent not only in Bollywood but across India. In a recent interview, she has raised the issue again. Pee Cee said, “Somehow professional men are given more remuneration and compensation than women are. As a woman, I don’t understand it, but that’s the world we live in.”

The actress has not just spoken about the matter in general terms but has also named stars, whose films are among the top grossers in Bollywood at the moment. “I don’t want to take away from the male actors who actually bring the audiences in. So, when you have an Aamir or Salman on the poster, they make Rs 300 crores.” While the actress feels that “movies with female leads simply do not make that kind of money,” she doesn’t lose hope as she believes that female actors will also enjoy the same privilege someday. Priyanka said, “The day female lead films make or command that much money, we will make that much too. But for that to happen, the audience needs to watch a movie because it’s got a great story and not just because particular star is in it.”
