Padmaavat Row: Producers move to Supreme Court against film banning in 4 states
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has faced a lot of opposition from the communal groups. After having a tough time the film finally got passed by the CBFC after five modification. But even after this the film has got banned from Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Now the makers are planning to the Supreme Court to withdraw the ban on the film. In their plea, the producers questioned the right of these four state governments to ban the film when the apex court has already clarified that the film’s screening can only be suspended in a particular area if there is law and order situation developing.
Chief Justice Dipak Misra has reportedly agreed to hear the plea tomorrow.
The film is based on 16th-century Sufi poet Mohammad Jayasi’s poem Padmavat.
Starring Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh & Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the film will also be released in Tamil and Telugu, in addition to Hindi.
Padmaavat – A Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions’ production releases worldwide on 24th January 2018.
