OMG! When a jury member said that Priyanka Chopra was “too dark”
It seems like the Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra was a victim of racism as well. It has been 18 years since PeeCee won the Femina Miss India 2000 title. Her journey towards stardom is been recorded in the book titled, “Priyanka Chopra: The Incredible Story of a Global Bollywood Star” .In the book, Pradeep Guha, who was one of the mentors of the contestants recalls how a member of the panel that he was a part of made a racist remark on the Desi Girl. To which, he allegedly responded by saying, ‘‘Yaar, come on! look at South American girls. They keep winning and some of them are pretty dark as are all the girls from Africa. So I said what are you talking about? ‘I was always very certain about her and as I said this woman never made a mistake twice,” Guha is quoted in the biography by Aseem
He further added, “She kind of always improved on herself day on day, the day on day. I knew that she would give in 200 per cent if she gets in,” Guha says in the book.
He says he was impressed with Priyanka from the beginning, but, for some reason, she did not come up as the “obvious choice” although she grew through the contest and eventually created history.
The actress, in some of her past interviews, has spoken about facing this issue even within her Punjabi family, so we guess that PeeCee was already ready for the comments of that sort to come her way at some point in her career.
