OH NO! Is Varun Dhawan’s October COPIED from this film?

It takes an actor to have nerves of steel to shed their on-screen persona and reveal their truest possible self to their audience in the manner that Varun Dhawan did as Dan for his latest release, October. The film has received rave reviews for its simplistic and engaging content from its target audience and critics alike.

As we recall, during the trailer launch event, the writer of this film, Juhi Chaturvedi made it known to the public that the film was being sketched for quite some time as coming up with a story that is as original as that of the Shoojit Sircar directorial is a time-consuming process.

But, is the story an original one at all in the first place?

As it turns out that Sarika Mene, the director of the Marathi film called Aarti – The Unknown Love Story, has accused the makers of October of plagiarism as the story, according to her, bears a striking number of similarities to the story of her own directorial venture, the story of which, according to her, was inspired from the experiences of her brother, who took care of his girlfriend after she landed into a vegetative state post an accident.

Sarika, at a recent interaction with a leading newspaper, raised the alarm by asking that, “How can a writer have imagined the exact events that had occurred in my brother’s private life? I want to know where he [Sircar] got his film’s idea from – sometimes he says it’s inspired from his life, sometimes he says a newspaper article [was the starting point],”

Reportedly, this issue was first brought up by Hemant Trivedi, a friend of Sarika who has claimed to have been working on a Hindi remake of Aarti. He wrote that “The filmmakers of October never acquired any rights to the Marathi film and they never contacted Sarika. Sarika is now so depressed that she is almost suicidal. For the past couple of days she has been knocking on doors of various associations in India — but none have offered any concrete help. She has already spent about 2 lacs in trying to get justice.”

Now, we are not quite sure as to what to believe. Because, although October and Aarti may share more than just some similarities, it’s entirely possible that a film can be based around the same theme and have a similar plot but yet the makers of one may not know about the other.
