Mahesh Bhatt opens up on the nepotism spat!
A lot has gone downhill since Kangana Ranaut accused Karan Johar of being the flag bearer of nepotism on his own talk show Koffee With Karan. All the B-Townies were asked one after the other for their take on Nepotism. Alia Bhatt spoke up, saying “I think a star kid can get that first film due to nepotism. But to constantly get films just because you belong to a filmy family, is not possible.”
What was interesting to see was that Alia Bhatt’s father, veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, the man who launched Kangana Ranaut in Bollywood had kept mum about it all. Until now. The man who heads the famous Bhatt camp in Bollywood seems like he is talking about being open about letting in new people in the industry.
Here’s what Mahesh Bhatt had to say “There is some truth to what, she says. The film industry not only in India but also Hollywood is insular. It’s inward-looking. It doesn’t look beyond its own little window, so it seems like a fortress to an outsider, hence I don’t grudge her view. That is the reality, but you can’t generalize this kind of critique. My career says that my doors will always be open for all. When an Anupam Kher walked in through my door at 28 and got Saaransh, it launched his unimaginably productive career. I have always done this kind of work.
To this, he further added: Even when Kangana came to us, she was a brilliant actor and today, she has much to be proud of. There is no denying that entertainment industries are insular, but you can’t generalize that statement and apply it to everyone. There is this self-congratulatory attitude that since I was an outsider, my journey was more difficult than yours, which was from Juhu to box office peak.”
Seems like someone has finally (but yet hypocritically) come in support of the fireball Kangy!
