Just like many other around the world, Kamal Haasan is all praises for SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 and believes that the film has set a benchmark for all the Indian filmmakers, just like what all the others have said. He has also said that the magnum opus has set records which will take some time for other filmmakers to even come close to.
But, on the topic that whether Hollywood can now be beaten by the Indian film industry, he said “But when they say that we can beat Hollywood, I’d say hold your horses. That’s because these are CG horses,”
Talking about the stories that are screaming out to be told on the big screen, the actor-director had a completely different viewpoint to share “It also proves that we have a great culture and also the best of stories here. But then they say we have 2000 years of culture. There, I’d like to intervene. We are not 2000 years old, we are 70. Don’t hark on Chandragupta Maurya or Ashoka; they’re not my forefathers. They are so far back in the past that we cannot emulate or interpret [their stories] in modern life. But we are trying to – we are grappling with the past and the present, and slipping and slithering,”
So, not quite ready to take on the west, are we?
