Did Kangana Ranaut reject Beyond The Clouds after Deepika Padukone?
Last year, a picture of Deepika Padukone with Majid Majidi went viral, where the actress could be seen in a completely deglamourized look, and there were reports she could be the lead for the filmmaker’s next, Beyond The Clouds. In case you haven’t seen it, see it here:-
However, it was learnt a few days later that the Piku star had merely auditioned for the role and Majid Majidi couldn’t cast her in the film because of her stardom.
Talking about not being able to cast Deepika in his film, the Iranian filmmaker said, “Since we were about to shoot in real locations, it would have been difficult to shoot with Deepika around as she is a star.” Now, some reports have surfaced regarding Beyond The Clouds, and they suggest not only Deepika Padukone but Kangana Ranaut was also in the running for the role of the leading lady. Even though Majid admitted to offering Kangana the role, he made it loud and clear that the Queen actor never refused it. This is what he said in one of his interviews, “With Kangana, we could not work together. I heard something from her office and that made me upset. She had said ‘I did not accept the role’, which was not true. Then we followed it up and it was not Kangana but her office that had published this. I mention this because I never reacted to what she said. I feel now I can say this. We did have some meetings, we talked together. I don’t want to go into detail. The only thing I want to say is that it is not true that she did not accept the role.”
Kangana, on the other hand, issued this statement about the film, “It’s a brother-sister story where the brother is the one doing all the fighting. Since I’m jumping straight into Ketan Mehta’s Jhansi ki Rani, who was an iconic heroine, why would I take on such a submissive role?
The Ketan Mehta movie is now being directed by Krish, the man behind Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back, and is titled Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi and is rumoured to release on the 15th of August and clash with Gold, also starring Akshay Kumar. As far as Beyond The Clouds is concerned, the film now stars Malvika Mohanan, who makes her Hindi film debut along with Ishan Khatter. The film opens in the cinemas on the 20th of April, 2018.
