Coffee with D review: Strictly Avoidable!
The mega-controversial Sunil Grover starrer, Coffee With D has finally made it to the silver screen, and movie buffs around town went to see what the controversy revolving the movie was all about. The movie seems like the makers attempted to pull off a Tere Bin Laden but failed miserably at it.
Here’s what the movie is all about.
Arnab Ghosh (Sunil Grover) is a prime-time journalist with a leading news channel who is famous (rather, infamous) for his overpowering interviews. He does not let any interviewee speak at all! Consequently, he was demoted to hosting a cookery show (Wait, what?!) since he was not seemingly helping the channels TRPs at all. Moreover, his bad story ideas called for classroom sessions where the conclusion was inevitable, he was always kicked out! (wish somebody would have done the same with the person who pitched the movie plot!).
Unsurprisingly, Arnab’s brain sparked (and we wish it would have burst into flames) and the idea of interviewing Dawood Ibrahim took birth. After a series of seemingly bogus funny stories posted on social media, which he executed by interviewing people, caught the kingpins attention and, consequently Dawood Ibrahim himself called the gutsy anchor who grabbed the opportunity and demanded an interview with the King of the underworld himself!
When the idea of meeting the man himself was pitched by him to the editor-in-chief, the female colleague uttered the three adjectives which are perfect for the movie as well (Suicidal, Stupid, Utter Garbage).
Fast forward to the interview which is the highlight of the presentation, the one between the Gangster and the Interviewer, is something where the man himself must raise objections, as the character hasn’t been done any kind of justice to. You are a fantastic artist, Mr. Zakir Hussain, the least you could do is give his character some respect!
Apart from a few watchable comic scenes, which involve spot-on humorous scenes by Pankaj Tripathi, other characters can be simply termed un-impactful. Also, we believe that Rajesh Sharma was better suited for the role of the anchor, his delivery on certain lines such as ‘grab him by the b*lls’ really make you feel the pain. Certainly, a lot of reels have been wasted by shooting pointless scenes.
So, we are going to be generous here, and give the movie a 1.5 star rating.
If you have seen the movie today(and made it till the end), we give you a standing ovation and suggest that you watch The Kapil Sharma Show later in the day. You’ll do just fine.
And for those who are planning to step into the nearest theaters for it, don’t waste your hard earned money on it, cash is scarce in the current scenario.
