CHAK DE! Shah Rukh Khan to reunite with Shimit Amin
Chak De! India is regarded as one of Shah Rukh Khan’s greatest performances. Restrained, composed but equally intense, one couldn’t trace the star in the character of Kabir Khan, a disgraced coach vying to reclaim his lost glory and honor. Director Shimit Amin, who’s arguably one of the most distinctive voices in Hindi Cinema, rightfully blended the commercial tropes of Bollywood with some niche elements in this iconic sports drama.
Now, the news is that Shah Rukh and Shmit may reunite for another film. A source says, “Last year when Chak De! India clocked a decade, Shah Rukh reconnected with Shimit. It was then that the latter discussed a concept he had in mind for Khan. The superstar liked it and asked him to work on it further. When Shah Rukh returned to Mumbai last week after wrapping up Zero’s US schedule, the two met again to discuss the progress on the script. Shah Rukh is keen on the project and is likely to produce it as well.”
The source continues, “He wants the film to be a departure from his romantic hero image. It will also feature a younger hero as a parallel lead. Though Ayushmann Khurrana is said to be in talks, the final casting call will be taken only after SRK comes on board.”
Srk’s current choices of films are indeed a major departure from his romantic image. Hopefully, Zero and Salute, two rather hatke films, should click and connect with the audience.
