102 Not Out, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, and Omerta, starring Rajkummar Rao, both had a lukewarm start at the ticket windows on the 4th of May. Avengers: Infinity War, meanwhile, continued to demolish previous and create new records of success. However, the word of mouth for 102 Not Out was immensely positive. It was helped that the film also garnered a lot of positive reviews from the critics.
On the first day, the film collected 3.53 crores and jumped to 5.53 crores on the second day. Given Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor’s reunion after 27 years and a slice-of-life subject that reflects the harsh realities of so many homes in the country, the film was bound to pick up commercially. Blending a delicate theme with ample doses of humor, director Umesh Shukla doesn’t have to worry as his film is gradually marching towards the success zone. And Sunday could be much bigger than Saturday.
Omerta, on the other hand, had a limited release, so the numbers expectedly had to be the same way. The film collected 54 lakhs on Day 1 and had a substantial growth on Day 2 and raked in 1.09 crores. As the film deals with a subject that is both dark and disturbing, it may not have big box-office numbers, but critical acclaim has been taken care of.
