Film: Bhoomi

Director: Omung Kumar
Producers: Omung Kumar and Bhushan Kumar
Rating: 3/5 stars
The trailer of Sanjay Dutt’s much-awaited comeback film, Bhoomi made us believe that it will be in the same league as Maatr or Mom (with a little bit of Munnabhai in it). Now that the film has finally made it to the silver screens, let’s see what more can they bring to the table while making a film around the same premise that has been vigorously used in this year itself.
The film starts off by Omung Kumar getting straight to the point of the harsh reality that India is facing, which is how rape and their victims are seen in this country. The second sequence, showing a yet another facet of real India (a big fat Indian wedding) and we are introduced to Aditi Rao Hydari, and then the moment we all had been waiting for. Sanjay Dutt literally made a splashing comeback as he is seen in a drinking session with a really old pal. The film is built the same premise that we have seen already, but then it turns into a revenge drama plotted by the both (Father and Daughter). What happens after the two begin planning is really interesting, so we will not spoil it for you.
First and foremost, IT’S SANJAY DUTT’S COMEBACK FILM! And, he nails it like a boss. Every single scene of his makes an impact on you. In the initial sequences, he’s shown as the calm family man, but you keep waiting for him to turn into a baddie we know, and when he does, he does not disappoint you. When things have gone downhill for this man, you do not want to be around him. Right till the end, he conveys “I’M BACK!”
Aditi Rao Hydari, just like how director Omung Kumar said, has the perfect combination of vulnerability and strength. Hydari has charmed us in what little screen time she has had in the past, but now she has proven that she could play a lead and help the film sail through without a glitch. She has been given enough to play with and that satisfies us.
Sharad Kelkar. The name says it all. How can you not like the person who has voiced BAAHUBALI has the strong and staunch baddie? His performances and his newfound screen presence in this year itself have shown us how he has grown as an actor within such short span of time.
Overall, watch the film because it’s a complete package, and, oh, DUTT IS BACK!
