Is Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri a Copycat?
We just got the first glimpse of the much awaited Anushka Sharma–Diljit Dosanjh starrer Phillauri. But perhaps we didn’t expect this feature film to go down in Bollywood’s Hall of Fame (or Shame) of copycats!
The moment we saw the trailer, we took a trip down memory lane and subconsciously played the trailer of Tim Burton’s animated movie Corpse Bride. The animated film stars Pirates Of The Caribbean Star Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. And when you play the two simultaneously, there are strikingly similar!
Spoiler alert, here’s what Phillauri is all about!
Suraj Sharma is a Manglik boy, and as per the rituals, he has to get married to a tree and then have a traditional arranged marriage. In order to have a happy married life, he has to get married to a ghost living in the tree.
This is where Anushka Sharma enters. Suraj Sharma and his bride-to-be confront her and question her as to what unfinished business she has on this planet that has kept her back for time immortal? Enter Dilijit Dosanjh. Dosanj and Sharma have a lot cooking between them. What will the end be like? For that we have to watch the movie, Unless that too has been picked up from the original!
Corpse Bride, on the other hand, is an animated musical revolves around the life of Johnny aka Victor who is engaged to Victoria (Emily Watson). The groom-to-be gets cold feet and runs away, only to return with the Corpse Bride (Helena Bonham Carter). He basically mistakes Helena’s dry bony finger to be a twig and he practices putting a ring on it.
Sounds similar, fellas? We bet a Tim Burton fan won’t take as long as us to figure out that Phillauri seems to be nothing short of a copycat.
Phillauri is set to release on the 24th of March! Stay tuned for more!
