Anupam Kher becomes the new chairman of FTII
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has been named the new Chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. Kher will succeed the controversial Gajendra Chauhan, whose appointment had triggered student protests.
Gajendra Chauhan who is popularly known for his role as Yudhisthira in the TV serial Mahabharata was appointed as the governing council in 2015. The students were not so happy with his appointment and had boycotted the classes for 139 days.
Anupam seems to be the right choice as he has done more tha 500 films. He has also been the head of censor board and the National School of Drama in the past. He has also been awarded the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 by the Indian government.
Kher tweeted about the same and thanked everyone.
I feel deeply humbled & honoured to be apportioned as the Chairman of iconic #FTII. I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities.🙏
