After SRK & Hrithik, is Deepika Padukone our next superhero?

Hindi Cinema has never exploited the superhero genre to its potential. At best, we have Shah Rukh Khan as G.One and Hrithik Roshan as Krrish.  Now, if reports are to be believed, Hindi Cinema is all set to witness its first female superhero, that too in the form of Deepika Padukone.

Many would argue Kangana Ranaut did that with Krrish 3, but her character had shades of grey and could not exactly be called as a super-woman. Deepika’s character is rumored to be the first true-blue, legitimate super-woman character, on the lines of Wonder Woman, that smashed many records overseas and also soared high in India. A source quoted, “After going through several scripts, Deepika has finally locked one and this is a massive superhero film. Deepika will have various action scenes which fans haven’t seen her doing before. The untitled film will be produced by Fox Star and she’s quite excited about it already.”

After Padmaavat, Deepika was all set to star in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rani with Irrfan Khan, but due to Irrfan’s ill-health, the film has now been postponed and no confirmation about it has been made yet. Now, after one dramatic role after the other, like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, it will be both refreshing and rousing to see the Piku star in a superhero action flick, where she’ll have ample opportunities to have fun with her character. Bring the film on!
