After Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Akshay Kumar to star in another horror-comedy!

Akshay Kumar is on a film signing spree. He already has three films lined-up for 2019, Kesari, Good News and Housefull 4. 2020 will see him return as Raju for Hera Pheri 3. And now, the actor may star in another film that is a remake of the South Indian horror-comedy, Kanchana. The remake will be directed by the same director who directed the original, Raghava Lawrence, who also acted in the film.

A source says, “Akshay has been in talks for the Kanchana remake for a long time. The film’s concept — horror laced with humour — appealed to him. But he had to schedule his dates for the project. He has finally given the movie a go-ahead and it’s happening next year, mostly after he wraps up Good News opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.” 

It continued, “It will be directed by Raghava Lawrence who had written, helmed as well as played the lead role in the original. Akshay will portray his character, who gets possessed by a ghost. He knows the pulse of the audience and now with such movies doing  great business, he wants to approach Kanchana in a different way and make it a much bigger film. The Kanchana remake was initially picked up by Sohail Khan and Salman Khan was supposed to star in it. But that didn’t work out. Then, Shabina bagged the rights and she was in talks with Ajay Devgn, but things didn’t materialise. Now, it’s finally happening with the Khiladi Kumar.”

Given the consecutive successes of horror comedies (Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Golmaal Again and Stree), it doesn’t come as a surprise that more and more actors are wanting to explore the genre.
